Pkilano Indian Cups And Balls A fascinaitng and detailed explanation. Of this classic effectp. K. Ilanoindian cups and balls. 18 pages. Card covers. Very godo condition.
From the introduction by edwin hopper. This is the latest in our magic know-how series which embraces a classic indian effect. I remember with a great deal of pleasure the late gogia pasha entertaining and mystifying a room of knowledgeable magicians, including the late fred kaps, with his brilliant performance of this effect. Mr. P. K. Ilango is himself from india, magic is his hobby and he has been performing since a very early age. Specialising in sleight-of-hand and impromptu magic. His full-time occupation is sa a restaurant captain in an expensive tourist hotel in the madras city where he entertains the hotel guests with his sleight-of-hand effects, using many attractive and self-designed props. Many of his effects have been published in the magigram magazine. Incidentally, the title page designed by him, uses caligraphic letters in the form of devanagan script, the script of the ancient indian lagnuage sanskrit. The cups which he himself uses are wooden ones.
Made from teak and hand-finished and witha take-apart wooden wand to match. All aer carried in a velvet bag. Mr. Ilango mentions that instead of a zip on top of teh bag, a drawstring can be used instead and may be less likely to foul up than a zip.
The balls he himself uses are velvet covered. Mr. Ilango's sytle of writing is crisp and everything is clearly described and his original manuscript has been left completely unedited. All the illustrations are by the author. But enough of this preamble, let us allow p. K.
Ilango himself to describe the working and routine for what is one of his favourite effects, which we hope will soon become one of yours. And the author, p. K. Ilano writesthe indian cups and balls trick is as old as the indian magic. From my childhood days i have been watching with fascination, indian conjurers doing this fine close-up effect. It is angle proof. They do this seated on the ground cross-legged surrounded by spectators. The cups they use vary according ot their standards. The wealthy indian conjurer uses gleaming brass cups. The middle class conjurer uses cups made up fo wood. The poor conjurer uses the cups made up of coconut shells. They make a hole on teh top of a coconut half-shell and through it they will stuff rolled cotton clothes to serve as knobs to hold the cups. Even today indian conjurers from kashmir to cape comerin are doing this cups and balls for their livelihood. Mostly, the indian cups and balls is done seated cross-legged on the ground surrounded by spectators.
The idea behind it is that the angle of seeing should be from the top. If this has to be done on the table, while sitting on a chair, the table should be a low table or the spectators should be seated higher than the table surface so that they could not have a glimpse of the important aspect in this trick, namely stealing and loading the balls.
